He is also Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Bucharest. A former intelligence practitioner with a Ph.D. in Sociology, Dr. Barna's principal areas of expertise are applied sociology, intelligence and security studies, geopolitics, security organizations, organized crime, and terrorism. He is the author of several books, including Al-Qaida vs. the World: After 10 Years (2011); Terrorism, the Final Solution?: The Rise and Fall of Al-Qaida (2010); and The Crusade of Islam (2007). Among his many articles and studies is “The Role of Intelligence in Combating Islamic Radicalization in Europe: A Study Case: Romania,” presented at the 2011 International Conference on Academic Intelligence and Security Studies in Bucharest.
