Abstract
Over the last 50 years, the focus of operations planning and control for manufacturing enterprises has shifted sequentially. There have been new ideas, techniques, and systems developed that have enabled novel approaches. The planning and control focus has shifted away from internal production operations and toward supply chain operations that connect suppliers, manufacturers, and customers. In this study, we examine the evolution of planning and control from shop floor control to material requirements planning (MRP), master production scheduling (MPS), and sales and operations planning (S&OP) (SCP).
