Abstract

ABSTRACT The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) review and maintain standards for nursing and midwifery education and practice and these standards are required to be met by all nursing and midwifery students on NMC approved programmes prior to entry to the register, ensuring they are fit to practise at the point of registration (NMC, 2018). In a climate of rapid changes to health, care and education, the NMC have reviewed their standards and quality assurance processes. These standards and framework are key drivers to gaining approval from the NMC to run pre-registration nursing programmes. Within the context of programme design, this correspondence highlights reforms in nurse education and considers the shifting identity of nursing in a reformed health service environment.
