Abstract

It is my great pleasure and honor to inform all the readers of the Nagoya Journal of Medical Science (NJMS) that our journal has been selected for coverage in Thomson Reuters products and services (Fig. 1). Beginning with vol. 71(1-2) 2009, this journal will be indexed and abstracted in Science Citation Index Expanded (also known as SciSearch) and Journal Citation Reports/ Science Edition. NJMS will receive its first Impact Factor in 2013. On this occasion, I would like to thank the editors, editorial board members, editorial assistants and all the reviewers of NJMS for their sincere efforts to improve the quality of this journal. The first volume of NJMS was published in 1923. Currently, NJMS is a web-based open journal, launched on April 23, 2010 in collaboration with the medical library of Nagoya University. At that time, we widened the scope of the journal to include not only original reports of studies in the medical science area, together with reviews, symposia, short communications, notes and references but also case reports and hypotheses. I feel that these arrangements have worked well for the past few years. Located on the Pacific coast on central Honshu, Nagoya is Japan’s third-largest metropolis
