Abstract
ABSTRACT Decolonization movements in Africa and Asia, Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolent resistance, and Christian pacifism merged in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s. I discuss key individuals involved and the tactics they developed to popularize a nonviolent confrontation of segregation, including the use of a comic book. These writers and activists developed new and transformative notions of solidarity and tactics of nonviolent resistance, which continue to influence movements for social justice around the world.
