Among her many honors, she received the Cervantes prize in 2013.This novelized life of the rare British Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington begins in her childhood home in Lancashire. Her father is an industrial magnate and her mother an Irish grandee. Three younger brothers, a French governess, and an adored nanny populate the nursery, in which Leonora over-identifies with her rocking horse, Tartar, and with the sidhes, Irish fairies, always just out of sight. All will appear in Leonora's future paintings, a wild blend of fantasies and memories, and dreams more powerful than the most extreme and extravagant lived realities.
