Abstract

In this article, I present and critically discuss some of the developments that have taken place within welfare services for people with intellectual disabilities in Norway over the past four decades. My knowledge and expertise is drawn from my experiences as a care worker from 1987 until 1993 in one of Norway's central institutions for persons with intellectual disabilities (Emma Hjorth institution).
