Abstract

ABSTRACT The Campus Images Collection at the University of Nevada, Reno, a CONTENTdm database, is the product of a collaboration between the University Libraries and various campus agencies that hold current or historical images of the UNR campus. This article explores the development and design of this database, and how the descriptive metadata fields were tailored to meet the needs of different agencies involved. In particular, the author discusses how an old indexing system–used in the past for the organization of print photographs into topical hanging files–was transformed into a set of controlled vocabularies that could be used in Dublin Core metadata fields in CONTENTdm.
