Abstract

This policy brief criticizes the European Economic Governance system for being too narrowly focused on economic growth and competitiveness.Starting from the 2009 report by the Commission on the measurement of economic performance and social progress (Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi), the brief proposes a new framework (a ‘magic polygon’) and a new scoreboard for an alternative economic policy geared towards well-being, convergence and social-ecological sustainability.
