Abstract

This essay discusses how the author missed the significance of creativity in the process of the quilt making she was studying. This is attributed to societal views of what is creative. However, in listening to what quilt makers said, it became evident that creativity was a significant source of meaning in what they did. The paper proposes that doing is essential to being creative, and is supported by the structure and ruleii of traditional crafts. Community is another important support for doing creative occupations.
