Introduction

Indian Parliament has recently enacted a law to create a new regulatory body for accreditation of medical degrees (Gazette of India). 41 of the 143 (28.6%) Medical Colleges were owned by private sector in 1990, since number owned by them increased to 281 out of 539 (52.1%) as of 2019 (Table 1). Increase in the UG medical seats was three-fold in private sector in contrast to government Medical Colleges.
