Abstract

This chapter is concerned with chains of nonlinear oscillators, which are analysed first from the viewpoint of obtaining similar normal modes and the related exact solutions for free and forced motion. The number of masses is increased gradually, starting from two masses in a chain, proceeding with three masses in a chain, and ending up with an infinite number of them. This latter case corresponds to continuous systems, which are dealt with at the end.
