Abstract

LESTER ASHEIM is assistant professor in the Graduate Library School of the University of Chicago and teaches courses on popular culture and the mass media of communications. He assisted Dr. Bernard Berelson in the preparation of the volume, The Library's Public, for the Public Library Inquiry, and has contributed articles to various professional journals. This article is based on material adapted from Mr. Asheim's doctoral dissertation, From Book to Film, submitted at the University of Chicago in 1949.
