Abstract

Nano structure of a new 1D Pb(II) coordination polymer, [Pb3(p-2ma)3(N3)3(NO3)3]n (1), (p-2ma = pyridin-2-ylmethanamine), have been synthesized by a sonochemical process and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), 1H NMR, C NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Structural determination of compound 1 reveals three Pb(II) centers with different coordination numbers. The coordination sphere of the Pb(II) centers take asymmetrical hemidirected geometry. There are three interesting coordination modes of azide anions (μ2-1,1, μ3-1,1,3 and terminal azide anions) observed in the structure. Through weak supramolecular interactions, the overall structure of 1 extended into a three dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure. PbO nanoparticles are obtained by thermolysis of 1 at 180 °C with oleic acid as a surfactant.
