Abstract

In 1905, the dissolution of the Swedish-Norwegian union took place. The Stortings unilateral decision to break the union was an extremely risky step. The Norwegian Provisional Government had to make significant efforts to solve multi-vector tasks. In solving the above problems, the figure of the popular and famous including outside Norway polar explorer and traveler Fridtjof Nansen, who has a wide network of acquaintances and communications in various spheres of society, turned out to be very useful and effective. His intensive agitation in the media and unofficial diplomatic functions influenced the solution of a number of issues.
