Abstract

The Friedel Sum Rule is derived for electrons whose motion through the lattice is described by the tight-binding model. The Friedel Sum Rule is a statement of charge neutrality: the screening charge around an impurity cancels the charge from the impurity itself. The answer is given in closed form for a complex of n-impurities.
