Abstract

An impurity in a conductor will cause oscillations in the charge density near the impurity. We calculate these Friedel Oscillations for impurities on a square lattice while using the tight-binding model. Far from the impurity the oscillations are described by a set of phase shifts. These are the same phase shifts which enter the Friedel Sum Rule.
