Abstract

Modification of Debye screening and Friedel-type oscillations are found in high-density QED and QCD. At distances r\ensuremath{\gg}1/${m}_{\mathrm{el}}$ and in the ultrarelativistic limit the screened potential of two charges behaves like \ensuremath{\sim}${\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{2}$sin(2${k}_{F}$r)/${r}^{4}$. This may have implications for charmonium suppression in the fragmentation region in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions and for the screening of impurities in white-dwarf stars.
