Abstract

Numerical results are given for electric current flow through a sliding contact that involves a graphite brush and a copper slip ring. The contact of length 2 l and unit depth moves with velocity c along the brush face. It is found that for a given fixed set of operating conditions (current I, sliding velocity V, contact force F N etc.) many values of c and l may exist; it is also found that c is linear in sliding velocity V.
