Abstract

Abstract Friction stir welding (FSW) has developed as an alternative to conventional fusion-based welding. This paper provides an overview of the recent research on “Friction Stir Welding (FSW)”. The objective of the work is to summarize the prominent research work in this field with due emphasis on the methodology involved, workpiece materials, tool design and material, workpiece sizes as well as the typical process parameters involved. A brief account of the numerical analysis of the FSW process has also been presented. The applications and future prospects of the concept have also been briefly discussed.
