Abstract
Friction stir processing (FSP) is a green technique developed for microstructural modification has potential to overcome the problems associated with cast products. FSP has been in use for the processing of Al-Si alloys but there is no report on hypereutectic. Hence present study is on processing of Hypereutectic Al-Si via FSP. In FSP tool rotates at high speed and hence have high stirring rate which broke α-Al dendrites. It also refined acicular Si-particles in the matrix. Silicon particles were uniformly dispersed in entire zone of stirring area. The breakage of α-Al dendrites and uniform dispersion of Si particles in the matrix upgraded the hardness and wear resistance of the processed alloy.
