Abstract

The aim of this research is to enhance the tribological performance of Stellite 12 coatings at room temperature-1000 °C. To this end, Mo modified Stellite 12 coatings were prepared on the Inconel 718 alloy by laser cladding, and the Mo content was optimized. The effects of Mo on the phases, microstructure and tribological behavior of coatings were investigated. The hardness and tribological performance of coatings were enhanced by adding Mo. There was a threshold content of Mo concerning with tribological performance of Stellite 12 matrix coatings. The 12.0 wt% Mo modified Stellite 12 coating kept more outstanding tribological performance, which was due to the high hardness, in-situ synthesized solid lubricants, friction film and the net structure of complex carbides.
