Abstract

This paper discusses on how boron stabilises the friction and wear behaviour of the brake pad at various temperatures. A total of 16 samples were prepared and a friction test machine was used in the experiment. The friction and wear tests were conducted at the pressure of 125 MPa with temperatures ranging from 100°C to 350°C. The results showed that the friction coefficient and wear rate of samples that were mixed with boron constantly changed with the increment of temperature. The findings suggested that boron can be used as part of the brake pad composition as it could effectively stabilise the friction and increase wear resistance.
