Abstract

Key developments taking place in recent years in the field of preventative medicine in child protection are presented. Concepts such as the integration of family midwives, preventative checkups for children, screening methods for risk assessment and the development of cooperative working structures between health care, youth welfare service and further network partners have been established nationwide. The federal initiative “early intervention” in connection with the child protection act allows a uniform supply structure. The practical implementation is explained by using the example of the prevention programme “Early Intervention / Nobody slips through the net” established in Saarland. Regional early education centres are an essential part of the network. For youth welfare service the concept of early intervention means rethinking and extending perspective.
