Abstract

The fretting-resistance curve of roller bearings may be plotted analogously to the fatigue curve. The damage is assessed in terms of the latent period prior to adhesion of the working surfaces, according to visual inspection. The limit of fretting resistance depends on the type of lubricant, the relative displacement, and the test base adopted. The resistance to mechanical and corrosion damage is significantly increased if regular relief is applied to the races of the roller bearings.
