Abstract

A wideband frequency-scanned antenna array based on continuous transverse stub (CTS) is presented in Ka-band. It is designed for beam steering applications in the millimeter waveband. The proposed frequency-scanned antenna array consists of a CTS antenna array, which is fed by a feed structure of a quasi-TEM generator and acts as the radiation elements with leaky-wave radiation. The feed structure is a wideband quasi-TEM mode generator based on sing-ridge waveguide which exhibits a good impedance matching characteristics within a broad bandwidth. The beam steering direction is tunable with the frequency increasing. A prototype operating with 42.4% bandwidth is designed. The peak gain of 23.8–29.4 dBi are achieved in the frequency at 26–40 GHz. In addition, beam steering capability is achieved in the maximum radiation angle range varying from −55° to −5° depending on frequency.
