Abstract

This chapter shows the frequency responses of the linearized lung mechanics model in underdamped and overdamped conditions. The complex function predicts how the lung mechanics model will respond to sinusoidal inputs of unit amplitude and all possible frequency values. The chapter illustrates one method of graphically representing the frequency response of the lung mechanics model. It demonstrates the utility of employing MATLAB to examine the frequency response of a known system. It determines the frequency response of the circulatory control model. The chapter shows SIMULINK implementation of this model. The algorithm embedded in Spectrum Analyzer is based on the following principle that is valid for all linear systems: The frequency response of the system under study can be derived by dividing the cross‐spectrum of the input and output by the spectrum of the input. The Spectrum Analyzer value allows the block to assign a timescale to the input and output data.
