Abstract
A novel class of frequency selective surface (FSS) composed of electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) leaky waveguide is constructed by stacking a short slot aperture, printed short dipole and another short slot aperture together to form an antenna-filter-antenna (AFA). An incident electromagnetic field is coupled between slot surfaces when a leaky waveguide mode is supported in the AFA. This approach permits a narrow band-pass spectral transmission response with sharp spatial roll off. The finite-difference time-domain method and waveguide simulator technique are used to study and optimise the transmission characteristics of the FSS. Free-space measurements on a manufactured FSS confirm the transmission response.
