Abstract
Evaporation duct forms due to the inherent rapid changes of humidity in air-sea boundary layer above the ocean and has important impacts on electromagnetic wave propagation However, the impacts are quite different on electromagnetic wave of different frequencies. In this paper, the frequency response of evaporation duct channel is studied both from numerical simulation and experimental observation. The frequency response is analyzed based on the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) model and the Advanced Propagation Model (APM). It is shown that the frequency response of evaporation duct channel is similar to that of the high pass filter. The frequency response in different evaporation duct environment is analyzed in the paper. The frequency response of evaporation duct channel was measured on a 149 km long propagation path in the South China Sea in 2014. The data collected in the experiment are used to verify the conclusion.
