Abstract

This paper presents a method for studying the response of a transmission tower structural system subjected to wind loads. In studying the response of the transmission tower structural system, two considerations are made. First, the wind speeds and the loads from the conductors are considered as the loadings on the transmission tower structural system. Second, the stresses in selected members are considered as the responses of the transmission tower structural system. The wind and associated structural response data were collected by the Bonneville Power Administration in Oregon. The data are used to determine the frequency response functions of the transmission tower structural system which will provide a measure of response. This measure of response is obtained by subjecting the transmission tower structural system to multiple loadings.
