Abstract
The frequency pulling of optically-pumped FIR methanol lasers was investigated experimentally and theoretically with the aid of a simple model with regard to the amplification. This model assumes Lorentzian lineshapes for the amplification and neglects the dynamical Stark splitting of the levels. The model was found to be adequate for a qualitative understanding of the measured behaviour of the laser.
