Abstract
Red/green colour blindness was examined in 40,745 individuals who participated in aptitude tests between 1976 and 1979. The screening of colour-blind subjects was performed with Ishihara plates, and further examination with anomaloscopy. The sample consisted of 33,876 males and 6896 females, all of them inhabitants of Hajdu-Bihar County. The results relative to the male subjects were anamnestically arranged according to their provenience. The sample size varies between 5·7% and 41% of the total population. The population genetic analysis shows that there are significant differences between the population samples. The total average frequency of colour blindness is 3·82 in males and 0·42% in females. The difference between expected and actual protan and deutan values is not significant. The frequencies obtained are suitable for the representation on a nationwide scale.
