Abstract
Laser diode pumping of solid state laser sources is a subject with a decade long history.[1–4] However, rapid progress in diode laser performance has revived research efforts in laser diode pumped miniature laser sources.[5] Recent experimental results have demonstrated that laser diode pumped solid state lasers are efficient at converting the divergent, broadband diode radiation into TEMOO mode, single axial mode output.[6,7] Furthermore, the solid state laser medium with its long storage time can be Q-switched or mode locked. The high Q, low loss, solid state laser medium also offers the potential of achieving Schawlow/Townes limited linewidths of 1 Hz at 1 mW output power from a monolithic miniature resonator device.[6] This linewidth is six orders of magnitude less than can be achieved directly in diode laser sources.KeywordsLaser DiodeSolid State LaserOptical Parametric OscillatorNarrow LinewidthLaser Diode PumpThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
