Abstract

Measurement of the frequency-dependent loss tangent, tan δ, and power factor, sin δ, over the frequency range 20 MHz–6 GHz, of four magnetic fluids, namely fluids 1, 2, 3 and 4, with particle packing fractions of 0.18, 0.09, 0.036 and 0.018 are reported. The loss parameters are presented in terms of the complex susceptibility components, χ( ω)= χ′( ω)−i χ″( ω), of the samples and it is shown that in the case of fluid 4 the frequency-dependent profiles of χ″, tan δ and sin δ are almost identical.
