Abstract
Abstract The tolerance of newly planted French tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus L.) to 10 soil-residual herbicides was evaluated in Canterbury in 1984–85. The survival of the plants and yield of the crop was unaffected by methabenzthiazuron up to 4.2 kg ha-1, metribuzin up to 1.8 kg ha-1, and diuron up to 4.8 kg ha1. These herbicides could form the basis of weed control programmes for French tarragon at establishment. Tarragon transplants did not tolerate bromacil, terbacil, chlorthiamid, dichlobenil, oryzalin, oxadiazon, and simazine at herbicidally effective rates.
