Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the issues of using French for academic purposes in the research work of students of humanities, in particular history and philosophy departments, one of the classical universities of Odessa, which allows to expose to both national and European society little-known pages of the history of Ukraine on the territory of Odessa region in Izmail during World War I, related to the history of the international Red Cross movement. The period of activity of the circle began with the 150th anniversary of the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov national university coincided with a number of anniversary dates in the history of the International Red Cross Movement and the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, some of which were on the lists of commemorative dates and anniversaries of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This is primarily about the 150th anniversary of the Alma Mater (2015), the 100th anniversary of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine (2018), and the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I (2018). The object of the study is to analyze and transmit in French the archival materials related to the heroic page of Izmail life - July 3, 1917 - the day when the exploit of Red Cross Floating Hospital staff on the Danube in Izmail took place. It was on this day of fierce hostilities that a small medical staff collected under fire the wounded and transported them across the Danube away from hostilities. On this day, 2,000 lives were saved by 28 people of medical staff. The burden on doctors, nurses and paramedics was about 80 wounded, not including the dead, the untransported and the lightly wounded. The tables provide research archival materials and analyzed publications in the local media, give information about the participation of students of the Department of History and Philosophy in various Frenchspeaking international events of the circle, in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise in Odessa and Agence universitaire de la Francophonie since 2013.
