Abstract

Abstract Freedom without Heteronomy? Autonomy from the very Beginning? The Discomfort with Upbringing in Discourses on Education, Participation, and Children’s Rights On the basis of educational theories on the relationship between autonomy and heteronomy as well as on the legitimacy of guardianship, discourses are problematized in which a strong discomfort with upbringing is expressed. The attempt is made to show that by avoiding the concept of upbringing, the general rejection of generational power structures, and the central idea of the autonomous child, fundamental pedagogical problems are lost sight of.
