Abstract
The main objective of this note is to present an overview the Brazilian freight transportation market, compare the performances of the truck, rail, and water modes, particularly in the medium and long distance hauls, and show some preliminary evidences of the logistics performance of industrial and commercial firms. One specific motivation for this effort is to identify recent trends in the freight transport markets and make a preliminary assessment the impacts of the extensive privatization and concessioning program carried out by Brazilian federal and state governments.
