Abstract

Freezing temperatures of water, methanoic acid, ethanoic acid, propanoic acid, butanoic acid, 2-methylpropanoic acid, their binary mixtures and some multicomponent mixtures have been determined using a kinetic technique. The liquid phase activity coefficients for the binary mixtures have been derived from the results and fitted to the equation of Renon and Prausnitz. The resulting parameters have been used to predict the freezing temperatures of the multicomponent mixtures. Good agreement with the experimental results is found.
