Abstract

The Protection of Freedoms Bill1 currently before the UK Parliament contains clauses that formalise procedures for schools to seek parental permission before recording biometrics of pupils at school or college. Whilst neither political party made any reference in pre election manifestos to the issue of biometric usage in schools, the Coalition Manifesto published after the election, sought to ‘outlaw fingerprinting in school without parental consent2, 3, 4.
