Abstract

The partition method is used to formulate a set of equations which are used to calculate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of shells of revolution with variable thickness. Several examples are given for the cylinder and the hyperboloidal cooling tower. Results indicate that moderate variations in shell thickness do not appreciably affect the natural frequencies, but may significantly affect mode shapes.
