Abstract

A simple numerical method based on the energy principle is presented for predicting the natural frequencies of a simply supported rectangular plate with an edge or two opposite edges partially clamped. The computation only involves the integration of simple assumed deflection functions. Numerical results are presented for isotropic and orthotropic plates. The predicted frequencies for isotropic and specially orthotropic rectangular plates, with the two principal axes of orthotropy parallel to the two pairs of opposite plate edges, are in good agreement with the reported analytical results.
