Abstract

Free vibration and elastic buckling analysis of rectangular sandwich plates with anisotropic face sheets and orthotropic core is presented. Plate boundaries are considered to be rigidly supported against transverse displacement and elastically restrained against rotation. The simple support and clamped edge conditions rise as special cases in the analysis procedure. The approach presented here is an extension of the general smalldeflection theory developed for simply-supported sandwich plates. Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to solve for each of the plate's in-plane buckling loads and transverse natural frequencies. Numerical results for several example problems are included which illustrate the effects of edge support conditions and face sheet ply pattern on the fundamental natural frequencies and buckling loads.
