Abstract

Patients with collagen vascular disease demonstrate a constellation of clinical pathologies, including vasospastic disorders and delayed wound healing. Accordingly, there are concerns that breast reconstruction using autologous techniques in this population could result in a high rate of recipient and donor-site complications, although objective studies of this issue are lacking. The authors sought to evaluate the safety of free tissue transfer for breast reconstruction in patients with collagen vascular disease.
