Abstract

Objective To report the clinical results of soft tissue coverage of the hand using free superficial epigastric perforator fascio-cutaneous flap transfer. Methods Ten patients with soft tissue defects of the hand were treated with free superficial epigastric perforator fascio-cutaneous flap. The siaes of the flaps ranged from 8cm×6cm to 16cm×9cm. Results All flaps survived. Postoperative vascular crisis occurred in one case and the flap was salvaged after surgical exploration. After 4 to 12 months follow-up, both the texture and appearance of the flaps were excellent, and the function of hand recovered satisfactorily. The wound of donor area in all cases healed primarily. The appearance was satisfactory. Conclusion Free superficial epigastric perforator fascio-cutaneous flap can be transferred to repair soft tissue defect of the hand in one stage. Donor site morbidity is minor. It is an ideal method for soft tissue coverage of the hand. Key words: Hand injuries; Surgical flaps; Treatment outcome; Arteria epigastrica superficialis
