Abstract

An extended energy cascade theory is presented, which correctly predicts the Reynolds number dependence of centerline turbulence intensities in the self-preserving region of fully turbulent free shear flows, shown clearly by the experimental measurements. The model indicates that below Re = 10 6 too few stages exist to completely erase the cascade's “memory” of initial conditions.
