Abstract

The scope of the synthesis of aromatic sulphones by the decomposition of benzoyl peroxide in an organic solvent together with sulphur dioxide has been investigated. Sulphones containing groups from the solvents have been obtained from diphenylmethane, p-xylene, and acetophenone, but not from cumene, decalin, cyclohexanone, or ethyl malonate.
