Abstract

The study of antioxidants and free radicals in biology is producing medical revolution that promises a new age disease and health management. The present study was performed to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant effect of the methanol, ethyl acetate, hydro alcohol and water extracts of Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth. by using DPPH method. The ethyl acetate extract exhibited significant inhibition in DPPH free radical formation with IC 50 values of 70.5206. The ethyl acetate extract showed potent activity on DPPH, which is compared to that of ascorbic acid (IC 50 = 36.8582) taken as standard. The lesser IC 50 value indicates larger antioxidant activity. The results of the present comprehensive analysis demonstrated that ethyl acetate extract of Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth. is a viable source of nature antioxidant and might be exploited for functional foods and nutraceutical applications.
