Abstract

Free-ion yield in liquid krypton has been calculated at low LET as a function of the external field according to a re-encounter theory recently proposed by the author. Comparison with experimental results reveals k r/ k D≃0.22 at 120 K, where k r is the specific rate of electron-ion recombination and k D is the corresponding Debye rate. Encounter reaction efficiency for electron-ion recombination is found to lie in the range 0.08–0.11, consistent with initial radial separation of thermalized electrons between 3000 and 6000 nm.
