Abstract
Analytical expressions for both the dipole and the overlap matrix elements between two states of the continuous spectrum of an electron of a many-electron atom are derived. We have used the velocity form for the dipole matrix element. The derivation of these formulae is based directly on the use of the nonrelativistic Hartree–Fock equations. The formulae do not have phase shift dependence and are expressed only through the direct and exchange potentials of the many-electron atom. Furthermore, the expressions derived here can be used to calculate the phase shift.
